Overkill - The Years of Decay (1989/Megaforce)

Elimination--RealAudio

The band's defining sounds begins to take shape on this release, as some strong steps are taken in the direction of their "thrash/groove" trademark. They're not quite there yet, as the bottom-heaviness still lacks in places (though it will improve with the following release). However, the production here has bettered the first three releases, and the band's legions really begin to take form with this offering.
"Time to Kill" is a good opener, with "Elimination" having some of the best thrashing on the disc. "I Hate" follows suit, and the slow creeper "Playing With Spiders/Skullcrusher" has a patented pick-up.
E.Vil N.Ever D.Ies is full of 'Kill attitude, "Who Tends the Fire" is steady moving, and "Birth of Tension" leaves its mark as well.
