Maniac Within--Volume One (1997/Dein Reich)
Rating--6.1
Plastic People--RealAudio
A Phoenix power trio, Maniac Within brings across a musical sound a bit along the lines of Pantera,
but also like the early '90s Jag Panzer mechanical crunch. The vocals fluctuate between singing and a
strained-like yell, sounding like a rough Dee Snider in the smoother sections. Things are better during the singing...
"Death Comes and Goes" features some nice choppy riffs, and a number of other solid tracks carry the second half of the
disc: "Plastic People," "Victims of the Innocence" with its end pickup, "The Arrow," and "Crazy Holy Ghost".
The band
is in a good market for metal music, so they bear watching.
