Mercury Rising--Upon Deaf Ears (1994)
Rating--8.0
Minute Man--RealAudio
Extremely heavy progressive material, along the lines of Radakka, chunky
Dream Theater, early Queensryche, and even a little Stratovarius or
Symphony X--though not quite as consistent. The singer displays great range in the lower octaves, but when up high loses a
little of the clarity. A small complaint, though...
The title track kicks things off with good time and riff changes, and
"Where Fear Ends," "Light to Grow," and "Halfway to Forever" follow in similar fashion.
Both "Zeros and Ones" and
"It's War" are strong and heavy, and "Minute Man" stands as the album's top cut with its both driving and powerful riffs, mixed
with bottom-heavy bass and distortion.
Definitely a power/prog group to watch in the future...
