Mercyful Fate--Don't Break the Oath (1984)
Rating--8.1
Gypsy--RealAudio
A very Priest-like distortion feel, with the same light strains of Maiden that showed up on the previous release. Overall, a
heavier, more detailed, and more energetic offering than before.
Drive and classic churn fuel "Welcome Princess of Hell," "Death
Kiss," and the mysteriously winding and excellent "Gypsy." Quick guitar work paces "The Oath," and both "Night of the Unborn" and
"A Dangerous Meeting" are solid fare.
Considered by many classic metal fans to be one of the band's (and King Diamond's)
finest moments, this is truly a no-nonsense slab---with heaps of style and thematic character to boot.
