Megadeth--Youthanasia (1994)
Rating--7.7

Blood of Heroes--RealAudio
Back in 1993, Metallica had received a lot of grief for its 'Black' album, and Megadeth had released two killer songs via soundtrack---"99 Ways to Die" and "Angry Again" (both appear on 'Hidden Treasures'). These elements pointed towards Megadeth being poised to take over the top spot in metal with its upcoming release. However, it didn't work out that way...
On 'Youthanasia,' the band's sound becomes even more toned-down and contained than it was on 'Countdown'. Not only are there few traces of the amazing sound displayed on 'Rust in Peace,' but the promise the two soundtrack songs had shown was not realized either.
As you can see from the rating, this isn't really a "bad" album. In fact, it contains some really good songs. However, much more was expected from Megadeth at this point in its career.
Highlights include "Reckoning Day," "Elysian Fields," "The Killing Road," and "Family Tree" (which are all solid cuts), and "Blood of Heroes,"--- the one track that truly takes you back an album or two.
TRACK LIST: Reckoning Day/Train of Consequences/Addicted to Chaos/A Tout Le Monde/Elysian Fields/ The Killing Road/Blood of Heroes/Family Tree/Youthanasia/I Thought I Knew it All/Black Curtains/Victory
