Blackmail the Universe-mp3

Following his apparent "retirement" due to nerve damage in his arm, Dave Mustaine returns to resurrect the Megadeth name, and brings original lead guitarist Chris Poland back as well. Mustaine’s vocals are just as strong and biting as ever, and there are no complaints at all with the riffing and axework, which is a welcome harbinger for ‘Deth fans everywhere. This album continues the upward curve the band has taken with its last few releases, as it hearkens back to the ‘Countdown’ and ‘Youthanasia’ days, and it has a couple of tracks that are even very ‘Rust’-reminiscent. Overall, not Dave’s best work -- but it’s his best in quite awhile, at least.
The tracks "Blackmail the Universe" and "Kick the Chair" are in the classic RIP mold, with fast chops and rapid notes. "Something I’m Not" is an excellent jewel that is built around a nasty little attitude strut, and the jerky rhythm of "Truth be Told" is strong as well.
As mentioned before, a number of tracks have the feel of the ‘Countdown/Youth’ era, including "Die Dead Enough" and its steady flow, the mesmerizing feel within "Of Mice and Men," and "The Scorpion," with its paced setup. "Back in the Day" is a nice novelty, as it has Dave reflecting on his musical influences and past.
