Megadeth--So Far, So Good...So What! (1988)
Rating--7.9
In My Darkest Hour--RealAudio
The band's sound and musical talent seems to have improved a bit, but there's not as much a feeling of
growth (with the quality of the songs) as one would expect. Then again, this is in hindsight---at the time, it was a satisfactory
progressional step.
More excellent grooves are present, and the guitar work continues to improve. The album isn't as
raw and thrashy as the debut; rather, it has a slightly more contained feel, overall.
Good songs include
"Set the World Afire," "In My Darkest Hour," "Liar," and "Hook in Mouth". I don't care much for the band's cover of
"Anarchy in the U.K.", but it's there as well.
HOT CHOPS: The slower, moody feel of "In My Darkest Hour" is nice work. Also, the riffs of the other
above-mentioned songs are meant to be played with the volume in the corner. Neighbors? What neighbors?...
