Megadeth--Countdown to Extinction (1992)
Rating--8.7
Psychotron--RealAudio
The songs on this offering aren't as fast and furious as on 'Rust in Peace'; rather, they seem to be
centered more around strong, thick riff work. While all of this may be fine and constructive, many believe Megadeth had found its
best sound with the previous disc; thus, a path like this wasn't viewed as the overall best direction to take. It's good music,
but not nearly up to the energy level of 'Rust'.
Highlights include the cranky "Skin O' My Teeth" and "Psychotron,"
the strong groove of "Symphony of Destruction," the solid "Captive Honour," and the smooth-to-strong shifts of tracks
like "Architecture of Agression" and "Foreclosure of a Dream".
"Sweating Bullets" has that tongue-in-cheek feel
that the band has incorporated before, and is a nice little ride.
