Mr. Dead--Long Live the New Flesh (2000/Mr. Dead)
Rating--8.5
I--RealAudio
Cranky, straight-forward power metal from Phoenix. This is no-nonsense havoc, in terms of musical songwriting, song titles, and overall attitude. The group is
reminiscent of fellow indies Mr. Blackwell, and remind a bit of some tight-packed Pantera as well--though without the pure distortion flow of
Dimebag, of course. The band brings a cutthroat mindset throughout; a definite unsigned gem!
A strutting, chugging chorus stands out in "I," and "Trading Paint" is a
caustic, swaying tune. Razor-etched chords move throughout "R.I.P.," and "Mind Demons" is another top spot.
Other solid tracks include "The Undertaker," "Down,"
"Twisted," "Broken Pieces," "Pain of Loss," and the grinding "Don't Need".
