Metal Church--Masterpeace (1999/Nuclear Blast)
Rating--7.9
All Your Sorrows--RealAudio
David Wayne, the band's orginal vocalist from the '80s, returns. His gruff, Biff Byford-ish (Saxon)
style makes its mark early, and some of the musical rhythms here remind of post-thrash Megadeth. In
all, a mix between the old Metal Church and the more recent, riff-laden material of the '90s.
"Sleeps With Thunder" is one of the top tracks, complete with a tight, heavy rhythm and some solid pull-offs. Another top highlight
is "All Your Sorrows," which has a great mid rhythm mixed into the standard fast pace.
A steady riff roll moves "Lb. of Cure,"
"Kiss For the Dead" and "They Signed in Blood" both pick up after slow starts, and "Falldown" is fast from onset to end.
In all, a commendable return for the band. However, like most of their other releases, there are several "filler" tracks that pull
down the overall quality and listening pleasure of the disc. For the longtime fan, though, this is a small complaint indeed.
