Motley Crue--Shout at the Devil (1983)
Rating--9.4
Knock 'Em Dead Kid--RealAudio
Ten Seconds to Love--RealAudio
Ahhhhhh.... Hell yeah! (No pun intended...) Now this is a classic metal album! Just one year removed from its major
label debut, the Crue comes back with a killer slab of riff-laden metal-- tunes that have crunching guitar work, melodic screams
from Neil, and some of the catchiest songs of the '80s. Though having a musical sound similiar to same-era
Dokken or Ratt, the Crue was able to catch the public eye more with a
heavy dose of attitude-- and this offering simply drips with it.
The disc begins with the slow, pulsing title track, and ends on
the same note with the paced rhythms of "Danger". In the middle, though, are chops sure to leave the speakers smokin'. One
of those CDs that needs to be in every metal collection, if simply as a landmark reference point. "Looks That Kill" flows with a driving
rhythm, and tracks like "Bastard" and "Red Hot" are full-throttle.
Starting with "Too Young to Fall in Love," and then
progressing through "Knock 'Em Dead Kid" and
"Ten Seconds to Love," you have three of the most blistering '80s riffs in a row. Great stuff!
