Motley Crue--New Tattoo (2000/Motley Records)
Rating--8.1
Punched in the Teeth by Love--RealAudio
The Crue makes a slight return to its old ways of sass, as this disc approaches the 'Dr. Feelgood' days-- both musically and lyrically. The distortion is not as etched and gain-nasty
as during the band's peak, but there are still plenty of good, bumping chops. Lyrically things seem to have been a bit rushed, perhaps.... Simplistic, even for Nikki
Sixx! Still, good to have some swaggering Crue, just the same.
Lead single "Hell on High Heels" has attitude to go with a rolling chorus, and the energetic and good
"Treat Me Like the Dog I Am" is getting a little airplay as well.
A nasty wah-pedal drive crunches through "1st Band on the Moon," and two more killer rhythms move
"Punched in the Teeth By Love" and the strafing "She Needs Rock N' Roll".
Thick and deep chords churn in "Fake," "Dragstrip Superstar" is typical Crue energy,
and the cover tune "White Punks on Dope" has a fun roll to it. The title track "New Tattoo" is a decent slow song, and a good change of pace.
This will please most
fans of old, even if it isn't a total saviour to the band's career. It's certainly better than what we've had for the last decade, though!
