Mr. Big--Japandemonium (1994/Atlantic)
Rating--8.5

Price You Gotta Pay--RealAudio
An excellent live release in terms of quality, and the band performs its songs to perfection as well. Eric Martin showcases his spectacular (and extremely overlooked) voice, and Paul Gilbert hits all the guitar notes.
Mr. Big was always one of the more talented metal bands out there, but they never seemed to be able to quite put it all together. Two studio tracks are tacked onto the end.
"Colorado Bulldog" opens the band's set in shredding fashion, and the heavy "Price You Gotta Pay" features a strong chorus. A host of the unit's "ballad" type tracks are present: "Wild World," "Nothing But Love," "To Be With You," and "Promise Her the Moon".
"Temperamental" is an Extreme-ish track, and "Green-Tinted Sixties Mind" displays the members' great vocal blending talents. Gilbert is given some time to prowl during a six-minute solo, and the man can simply shred (see Racer X). Due to Mr. Big's somewhat lighter nature Gilbert has often gone unnoticed in the metal world, but his is a very real talent.
A solid release, and overall the band's best effort.
