Manowar--Louder Than Hell (1996)
Rating--7.2
Outlaw--RealAudio
More Valhalla-tinged goods, and while not only as distortion-heavy as before, also a bit faster. The most comparable disc
would certainly be the previous 'Triumph of Steel'. However, the bass guitar sound (and perhaps a little guitar straffing?) gets both
repetitive and somewhat annoying-- it has an almost electronic thump, and is repeated on nearly every song. Just not what
we've grown used to, I suppose.
"Number 1" is heavy and chugging, and the chorus of "The Gods Made Heavy Metal"
stands tall in familiar Manowar form. A great pre-solo section bolsters "Outlaw," and "King" follows with more might.
Thematically, the boys are as strong as ever. Though it's surely not enough to ruin the disc, still take the bass sound into account.
