Lamb of God -- Ashes of the Wake (2004/Epic)
Rating - 8.4

The Faded Line - mp3

The band’s third release (and fourth overall; one was under the name "Burn the Priest"), Lamb of God is making huge strides in the extreme metal world. There are lots of great rhythms, reminding of Dragonlord, Death, and recent Testament. The songs are succinct and to the point, with most checking in at the three to four minute mark. The sound may get a bit monotonous for some, but for fans of extreme/death/thrashing metal, this is just good, grinding fun.
"The Faded Line" features a tasty gallop midway in, "Now You’ve Got Something to Die For" is solid-moving, and "Hourglass" puts your neck in motion.
Virtually every other track is strong and steady, with "Omerta," "Blood of the Scribe," and "Break You" being a few of the top highlights.
After appearing at 2004’s Ozzfest, hopefully we can expect more good things from this aggressive unit in the future.
