Lynch Mob - Smoke This (1999/Koch)
Rating - 4.0

WTF is this? Rap? Rap? And not even as good or heavy as bands like Stuck Mojo and Body Count, to boot. There are lots of shocks to be found here. First off, why even call this Lynch Mob? Well, that's rhetorical, of course. It's for the money. But imagine the fans' surprise when they find out Lynch Mob will be playing at the local club... they gobble up tickets... and then they're treated to a night of "yo's" and "homie's," courtesy of songs like "Chromeplated" and "Playpalistics." Wonderful. Well, regardless of the utterly useless singing/lyrics (again, this cannot hold a candle to Stuck Mojo), there actually is some decent music and rhythms, and solos are intermixed as well. The distortion is very muddled, however, taking away from even those lone bright spots.
"Hype-O" has a Rob Zombie feel to it, "Hollow" is a smorgasborg of music, singing, and sounds, and despite not being very heavy, "Beg" has a good sway and flow. "Relaxin' in the Land of AZ" will eventually become the excellend song "Relax" that shows on up the 'REvolution' disc, and has a good, yearning chorus. Both "When I Rise" and "What Do You Want" have good music, but crap like the title track makes you want to hurl.
This rating is for the music only, and even that may be kind. Good damn thing George redeemed himself with 'REvolution.' The dude is simply too talented to be pulling stunts like this.
