Lefay--The Seventh Seal (1999/Noise)
Rating--8.7
The Boon He Gives--RealAudio
Child of Time--RealAudio
The band formerly known as Morgana Lefay. (The name change was due to a legal tie-up between members.)
This is
pretty much an expansive European power sound, with edged distortion throughout. Shades of Jag Panzer,
Stigmata IV, and a little Rage knife through, and vocally it's
old-school Jon Oliva that comes to mind---though a but more biting.
The crunching lead track "End of Living" features some
caustic and nasty vox, and is followed up by the slow-pulse and heavy nature of the title track.
"I Am" is paced and solid,
and the neck-breaking chorus rhythm of "The Boon He Gives" is deadly. "So Strange" is a slow bulldoze, and "Harga" is
similar in nature.
The ripping "Child of Time" may be the disc's best track, as it scratches, claws and grooves from start to
finish...
Tasty and solid.
