Lillian Axe--Poetic Justice (1992)

Body Double--RealAudio
One of those bands that I had heard "of" for a long time, but never actually heard. Now I see what the rage was all about. Sort of a blast from the past, mixing the strong harmonies and metal riffs of the eighties with the... well, I'm not sure what with. The "advancements" of the nineties? Hmmmmm. Anyway, a great disc, with some talented musicians on it.
Musically, Lillian Axe sound like a number of the better late 80's/early 90's hard rock/metal outfits: the crunch of Dokken, the sassiness of Firehouse, and the vocal harmonies and majesty of groups like Saigon Kick and Enuff Z'nuff. In other words, very good, solid music--but not headbanging, sacrifice-a-chicken stuff.
Highlights are abundant, including "Innocence", "Body Double", the Saigon-ish "See You Someday", "Living in the Grey", "Mercy", "The Promised Land", and "She's My Salvation". Whew!
BTW, I am still looking for the first two releases. If anyone wants to cut a deal, let me know...
HOT CHOPS: The opening riffs to a number of songs are crunching '80s metal at its best: "Body Double", "Living in the Grey", "Mercy", and "She's my Salvation".
The all-acoustic "The Promised Land" is a superb song, as classically-inflenced guitarist Steve Blaze shows off his talent as not only a metal melter but an enchanter as well. The tune also features trong, emotional singing. Play it for your girlfriend...
