King's X--Gretchen Goes to Nebraska (1989/Atlantic)
Rating--7.3
Over My Head--RealAudio
Some musical growth is shown, as the band mixes things up a bit more in terms of the songwriting, and also the production. There's more of an "expansive" sound
this time around, and some of the lighter, acoustic parts actually remind of smooth Crosby, Stills, & Nash. Still metal, though...
The mesmerizing wind of "Out of the Silent Planet" starts the album, and the heavier, psychedelic-like flow of "Over My Head" follows on its heels.
Acoustic-melody tracks include "The Difference" and "The Burning Down," while "I'll Never be the Same," "Fall on Me," "Don't Believe It," and the smooth
and distorted "Send a Message" have some extra kick.
