Krokus - Headhunter (1983/Arista)
Rating - 8.0

This release was actually the eighth by the band, but the first to truly earn them some recognition in the U.S. Widely considered their best overall, 'Headhunter' is part AC/DC, part Quiet Riot, and a little Saxon as well. Consistent, fresh, and fairly cutting metal for the day, and not too many clichés are incorporated, either (that will later change, though).
The swift and energetic title track is a good start, with the solid and rhythmic "Eat the Rich" keeping the pace solid. "Night Wolf" is a rolling and full-tilt cut, and both "Ready to Burn" and "Russian Winter" are good listens as well.
"Screaming in the Night" is one of the '80s truly underrated and unheralded metal tunes. It is a building and atmospheric piece, and features a great, deep-rooted chorus.
