Kreator--Endorama (1999/Pavement)
Rating--8.0
A shift for the band, in several areas. Vocally, there is a departure from the gravelly, shout-like vox that the group has
carried in the past. The surfacing style is a deep and mesmerizing spoken/singing mix, which seeps atmosphere and mood.
Next is the music----While still tight and riff-packed, it's not quite as raw and wide-open; not full throttle thrash as was displayed
on the majority of the band's past offerings. Still, despite these changes, still very intriguing metal, and the more open-minded
Kreator fans of the past should still find much to enjoy about this somewhat new direction.
Contained and paced verses make opener "Golden Age" good, and a great flow dots the title track. "Chosen Few" has a
choppy rhythm and a good, yearning vocal chorus, and the sliding "Willing Spirit" is similar.
The quick, tight rhythm and
swift chord arrangements of "Pandemonium" are strong, and both "Soul Eraser" and "Tyranny" churn along as well.
