Kix--Blow My Fuse (1988)
Rating--8.6
**U.S. Sales Certification--Platinum**
Cold Blood--RealAudio
The band's most successful album in terms of sales, and musically it picks up where 'Midnite Dynamite' left off. A bit more
polished, but still rocking. Whiteman's vocals are also at his career peak.
The fast-paced "Red Lite, Green Lite, TNT"
gets the ball rolling, and is quickly followed by the chunky distortion of "Get it While it's Hot". Similar crunch flows from
"Cold Blood," the disc's first video.
"No Ring Around Rosie" and "She Dropped Me the Bomb" are both good and steady,
and the rollicking riff of "Piece of the Pie" makes it a fave. The buildup and grind in the title song rocked many a party back
in '88, and decent ballad "Don't Close Your Eyes" used to dot the airwaves with regularity--not as good as "Walkin' Away", but
better than average....
In all, Kix continues their mini-legacy career, straddling the line between simple glam and riff-and-chunk based
rock. Rarely taken seriously, but hey--they wouldn't want it that way!
