Kiss -- Unmasked (1980/Casablanca)
Rating - 3.8

Despite the title, the band wasn't really "unmasked" yet (that would come a couple of years later). What is uncovered, however, is a very bad album. There is very little "metal" here (or even hard rock, for that matter), and the music lacks the thickness of a lot of their '70s hits.
Tracks like "Shandi" and "What Makes the World Go 'Round" have a disco feel to them... which isn't a good thing, for those keeping score at home. The few salvageable moments would be "Naked City," "Two Sides of the Coin," and "You're All That I Want" -- though none are really mentionable when it comes to the band's entire catalog. Thankfully the group would rebound in the coming years...
