Kiss--Creatures of the Night (1982)
Rating--7.8
**U.S. Sales Certification--Gold**

Despite having only one well-known track rise from the smoke of this disc, there are a number of flaming gems left down below. "I Love it Loud" is the one anthem that still gets play at Kiss concerts---and deservedly so. Gene belts it out in fire-breathing fury, giving it to you with a sense of evil the band had been without for quite some time. After that one, however, the excavating begins. Start with the title track---an excellent, upbeat, riff-oriented header, with killer drum work keeping the pace fresh. "Rock and Roll Hell" is another nasty Gene treat, and "Saint and Sinner" has a bass/guitar layered intro piece that catches the ear.
Kiss' eventual influence on others can be seen here to an extent, as "Keep Me Comin'" has the sassy guitar chug that will duplicated by bands such as Kix and Firehouse later in the decade.
The absolute, A - #1 cut, however, is "War Machine". This is pure apocalyptic evil at its best---and yes, Gene leads the way. A driving guitar and bass groove lays down the foundation, and the bands bulldozes through the song, stopping only to hurl bodies out of its way. Massive.
