Kiss--Animalize (1984)
Rating--7.8
**U.S. Sales Certification--Platinum**
The mid-eighties version/sound of Kiss starts with this album, and the band starts to shift with the times
and update the distortion on its guitars a bit. Not a bad thing, mind you---just wanted to inform.
This
album marks the only appearance of guitarist Mark St. John, following the less-than-amiable departure of
Vinnie Vincent. Several stellar cuts, and other hot spots are sprinkled here and there. "Heavens on Fire" is the MTV-pushed
anthem that all fans know, but is backed up well by strong intro riffs to songs "Burn Bitch Burn" and "While the City Sleeps".
Other highlights include the Fastway-riffed "Under the Gun," the strip-tease pleasure of "Murder in
High-Heels," and the prototypical Kiss-chorus of "Thrills in the City".
Looking for a hidden treasure? Beware "Lonely is the Hunter"---Gene's
nasty rump wrecks havoc, ground over an arrogant and swaggering riff... and we know how those songs go!!
HOT CHOPS: Check out that middle break/riff in "Hunter". Oooooh, yeah.
