Kill For Thrills--Dynamite From Nightmareland (1990/MCA)
Rating--5.3
Something For the Suffering--RealAudio
This is Gilby Clarke's band before his little culmination with Guns N' Roses.
L.A. metal, but not
all that sleazy. Somewhat along the lines of L.A. Guns, but not quite as heavy or distortion-biting.
Decent overall... just nothing that is groundbreaking or truly standout. After a pretty good first half of selections, the tracks
turn a bit flat.
A heavier rhythm feel makes "Something For the Suffering" a top spot, and the pickup and good chorus of
"Brother's Eyes" does the same.
All of "Commercial Suicide," "Paisley Killers," and "Silver Bullets" have their moments, but the
band (and its songs) just lacks too much bite to be competitive in this market-- especially at the time of release.
