King Diamond--The Spider's Lullabye (1995)

The Poltergeist--RealAudio
King Diamond is the man, plain and simple. His solo undertakings when he's away from Mercyful Fate tend to be not quite as "dark" in the overall guitar sound and production, but they are every bit as intricate. In fact, the somewhat fresher sound gives the music a sharper feel at times. Still present is the King's precise attention to detail in his work, and there are also more gothic keyboards here and there---though they do not overwhelm (or even overshadow) the distortion. Solid, solid concept metal, from one of the classic madmen.
"The Poltergeist" and "Dreams" are both excellent, as the first contains an absolutely driving riff and rhythm. A number of the tunes are of the fast, no-let-up variety: "From the Other Side," "Moonlight," and "Six Feet Under." The closing "To the Morgue" treats its listeners to a heavy, plodding chorus, bringing the album and hand-held storyline of Dr. Eastmann and the rest of the morbid cast to a close...
