King Diamond--Abigail (1987)
Rating--8.0
The Possession--RealAudio
More of the Maiden/Priest-skewed flavorings of King Diamond's
early career---with, of course, that twisted KD element. This is the remastered version, with several additional tracks added at the
end...
Good pace mix-ups are evident in the fast-to-steady "A Mansion in Darkness" and the epic-like "Black Horsemen."
"The Possession" is pure drive, and behold the chunk of "Shrine"-- a Diamond staple sound.
Both "The Family Ghost" and
the title track stand out as well, with nice riffs mixed throughout.
At this point in time, Diamond's solo material is still very close
in sound to the Mercyful Fate work. Actually, the two projects will always be fairly close-- but in the early-to-mid nineties
a bit more treble will be added to the solo stuff...
