Kamelot - The Expedition (2000/FAD)
Rating - 8.2

This is the Florida band's first live offering, and features Roy Khan on vocals, but is before the group's truly great studio offerings would be released, unfortunately. The live arena is the true test of a vocalist's abilities, and of course Khan impresses in jaw-dropping fashion. One slight downside is that some of the tracks are pieced together from different shows; this is just a nuance to those who truly enjoy the live and "fluid" experience of a concert. Eight concert tracks are included, along with three studio songs.
Good live delivery is the norm on "Expedition," "The Shadow of Uther," and "Desert Reign/Nights of Arabia," while the cutting and thick notes of "Call of the Sea" are especially effective.
The studio tracks encompass the Christmas-themed instrumental "We Three Kings," a good acoustic ballad by way of "One Day", and a strong re-recording of "We Are Separate," originally off the band's 1996 'Dominion' CD.

TRACK LIST: Until Kingdom Comes/Expedition/The Shadow of Uther/Millenium/A Sailorman's Hymn/The Fourth Legacy/Call of the Sea/Desert Reign - Nights of Arabia/ We Three Kings/One Day/We Are Not Separate
