Kamelot--Siege Perilous (1998/Modern)
Rating--8.3
Millennium--RealAudio
Vocalist Roy Khan, formerly of Conception, comes over to handle the vocal duties on this disc. Sort of like
the rich get richer...
More of the rapid, intricate style that the band has been forging for the past few years, though there are
shades of Helloween-like riffage as well. Still power/prog to the hilt, and still a leader in the genre.
Khan's added majestics should need no introduction.
"Expedition" is solid, with chugging grooves throughout, and "Parting Visions" has a tremendous lead rhythm.
The heavy and
rapid axe movements of "Irea" allow it to stand out, and Khan sets the mood in "Where I Reign," as he mixes well with the
layered guitar and key toolings.
A number of other strong cuts, including "Providence," "Millennium," and "King's Eyes."
It would appear at this point that Khan has become a permanent member of the group (following the apparent breakup of
Conception), so another album is definitely looked forward to...
