Kamelot - Ghost Opera (2007/Steamhammer)
Rating - 8.6

Man, ever since 2001 it seems like Kamelot can do no wrong. 'Ghost Opera' is the band’s eighth studio album and it proves that Kamelot is here to stay in terms of consistently writing catchy power metal songs with strong choruses. Sure, it might be a slight step down from The Black Halo, but this is still one strong release. Others may say that they are becoming a bit redundant, but they are redundantly good -- which is more than a lot of other bands can say!
This time around, keyboardist Oliver Palotai is recruited as a full member of the band and his playing greatly shines throughout the album. The heavy guitars from the previous three releases are not as prominent here, but this could be a good thing, depending on your preference. What carries this album, instead of keyboards and guitars, is powerhouse vocalist Roy Khan. His work in the title track is a testament to his greatness, as is the mourning "Love You to Death" and the singing explosion of "EdenEcho," the latter possibly being the best song on the album. Other highlights include "The Human Stain," "Blucher," and "Mourning Star".
This release has been criticized by some as a step down in the bands catalog, and it may very well be after following three masterpieces, but with its emotional lyrics and sophisticated playing it still eclipses anything the band released before Karma.
