Judas Priest--Sad Wings of Destiny (1976)

The Ripper--RealAudio
A real staple among early metal albums, although it's really not given its due. A lot of 80's metal acts point to this album as being an influence, including Don Dokken, and members of both Def Leppard and Iced Earth. The production and sound are great for both the time period and the low budget Priest had to work with. The first real showing of "metal" is obvious as well---both in the sound of the music and in the style of the band's songwriting.
Contains several Priest classics-- the building and tempo-shifting "Victim of Changes," the prowl of "The Ripper," the epic "Dreamer Deceiver/Dreamer," and the rollers "Tyrant" and "Genocide".
HOT CHOPS--Rob's scream at the beginning of "The Ripper"... his trademark! "You're in for surprise, you're in for a sha-ah-aaaaahck!" If that doesn't send chills up your spine, you need to go back to your Alternacrap. Also check out the high-hat work during the verses of "Tyrant". Heavy, brutal stuff!
