Last Dying Breath--RealAudio
Very honed and mechanical-sounding metal, even moreso than the current Panzer style. Harry Conklin is not with the band on this release, and the semi-spoken and somewhat shouty vocals that are present end up taking away from the music at times. This is still a fairly strong release overall; had Conklin been a part of the band at this time, it could have been stellar.
"Jeffrey" is a crunchy opener, and a number of good tracks are represented at later points: "The Clown," "Edge of Blindness," "Last Dying Breath," and "Whisper God".
The acoustic-based "Forsaken Child" is good, and the flowing gallop of "Eye of Penance" stands out. A nasty pickup midway through "Spirit Suicide" is pure Panzer, and more pointed riffing emerges from "The Church".
Again, a good release--but the rather average vocal performance keeps it from breaking through.
