Iron Savior--Dark Assault (2000/Noise)
Rating--8.2
Predators--RealAudio
The aliens/Atlantis concept story continues, and it's built around more solid, cutting, no-nonsense power metal. This will reportedly be Kai Hansen's last endeavor
with the group, as he has stated that he wants to focus more time on Gamma Ray.
As is the case with each Iron Savior disc, nearly every track has its moments of
glory. The bass thump of "Dragon's Rising" is paced and edged, the trade-off vocals and strafing chops in "Predators" are nice, and while heavy and mesmerizing,
"Back Into the Light" brings across a smooth feel as well.
Other strong cuts: "Never Say Die," "Seek and Destroy," "Solar Wings," "I've Been to Hell," and "Firing the
Guns".
The band also offers its second Judas Priest cover, this time shadowing "Delivering the Goods". Adequate music... but it's hard to out-do Priest on that track,
mainly due to Halford's heroics on the original.
