Iron Savior -- Battering Ram (2004/Noise)
Rating - 8.5

This is the Power Metal act’s sixth full-length release, and is a good rebound from the last couple of somewhat generic offerings. The delivery is packed tight with plenty of talented workmanship, and good vocal melodies can be found throughout (without getting overly "happy"). Gamma Ray is a good comparison, though the band also ushers in darker and thicker German sounds, ala Grave Digger and Running Wild. Iron Savior’s musical style hasn’t really changed much over time; the difference here (from the previous two releases) is in the energy of the presentation, and the composition of the tracks.
The title song is a fast and driving opener, with the rolling riffs of "Stand Against the King" coming up next. Both "Tyranny of Steel" and the bar-chord rhythm of "Break the Curse" show those Grave Digger and Running Wild attributes, where the steady "Wings of Deliverance" has a classic Priest feel, and could have fit nicely on a heavier ‘Point of Entry,’ perhaps.
Both "Time Will Tell" and "Starchaser" are good, and "Machine World" is stately and evil near disc’s end.
