Power of Love--RealAudio
Rob Rock returns to the band, and some of the trademark, cutting-edge chops really begin to formulate here. The band is still one disc away from total nirvana, but this is definitely a step closer. Not quite as fluid and power-swift yet, but at the same time an exit from the slightly symphonic style of 'Stand In Line' is evident. Several of the slower pieces have an almost bluesy swagger. This is still metal, though-- no doubt about that.
A nice flow moves opener "When the Well Runs Dry," and a steady, pulsing drive marks both "Ball and Chain" and "Dance."
Faster chops show up in "Power of Love," while both "Endless Nights" and the title track are tough with a sassy, almost Extreme-like swagger. "Under the Gun" and "City's On Fire" close out the solid pallete, as the band gears up for the first of three successive masterpieces.
