2 Minutes to Midnight--RealAudio
A truly great metal album. Although some extremely strong music followed, this album probably marked
Maiden's peak. Every song is fast paced, and the riffs and melodies are without fault. From when the opening track "Aces High"
kicks in until the last chords of "Rime of the Ancient Mariner," this is a nonstop classic.
The best guitar sound Murray and Smith
have achieved yet, and the music itself is more intricate than before---without losing any of its strength. A must-have for all metal
fans, as Maiden would lay the foundation for a number of premier metal acts to build upon. '80s power metal at its finest,
and it still stacks up today.
Other highlights include the head-moving rhythm of the title track,
"2 Minutes to Midnight" (a pure classic), and "Flash of the Blade".
HOT CHOPS--The instrumental "Losfer Words (Big 'Orra)" has a cool, catchy groove to it. Also, when
"Rime of the Ancient Mariner" kicks back in after the cool-down mid section, the power groove has been realized. Nice,
chuggy rhythm, the way you like it!
