Iron Maiden--Fear of the Dark (1992)
Rating--7.9
Be Quick or Be Dead--RealAudio
Like its immediate predecessor, this one was dogged by many---but it is still an enjoyable album. Certainly
not the Maiden of the mid-eighties, but a decent gathering of tunes---and essential for a true Maiden fan. It is, however, quite
apparent that the band's sound is changing a bit. You can now hear shades of 'The X-Factor' very clearly on a number
of songs: "Childhood's End" and "Fear is the Key" are among the most prominent examples.
Highlights include "Be Quick or
Be Dead," "Afraid to Shoot Strangers," the aforementioned "Childhood's End," and the title song.
HOT CHOPS--A strong emotional atmosphere on the title song---very good on the 'Best of the Beast' compilation,
where it is performed live.
