The band's small-label debut, and a rough introduction to their (at the time) semi-unique sound. The vocals are a bit more strained/clashing than they will become on the next release, and the band is still feeling its way around a bit musically, as well. 'The Jester Race' will bring a creative breakout, and improved production to boot.
The self-named track "In Flames" hints towards the soon-to-come norm of a sound, with other notables including "Hargalaten," the thrashy "Clad in Shadows," the instrumental "Starforsaken," and the album's title track.
