**UMR Review Poll Winner**
The band's second full-length release, and the first on a major label. This is where they begin to truly lay the groundwork
in the Melodic Death genre, as it would cascade from here. The band incorporates thrashing, black-like music, with the added pleasure of intricate, Maiden-like leads
and rhythms. The chops abound, as many point to the band's earlier catalogue as being some of its best work. Clean vocals will be mixed into the fray later in the band's
career, but none are to be found here.
"The Jester's Dance" is a powerful acoustic/distorted instrumental, and "Artifacts of the Black Rain" gives us our first real taste
of that "patented" In Flames sound: sharp guitars, layered leadwork, and intermixed double-bass.
Strong tracks include "Graveland," "Lord Hypnos," and the steady
thickness of the title track, while "Dead Eternity" is nasty and driving throughout.
