Iced Earth--The Melancholy E.P. (1999/Century Media) Rating--8.5

A limited addition, hand-numbered EP; mine is number 1,348 (of 1,500). Included are three of Iced Earth's recent "slower," more melodic tracks, plus two covers.
From the 'Dark Saga' release is "I Died For You," and from 98's 'Something Wicked' album are the songs "Melancholy (Holy Martyr)" and "Watching Over Me." The covers are of Bad Company's "Shooting Star"-- with some sharp chords and an ultra-smooth chorus--and Black Sabbath's "Electric Funeral". The latter is plodding, heavy and downright evil, with Barlow's vocals being splendid and damn chilling! That track alone makes this one worth it.
A great collector's piece...
