Iced Earth--Iced Earth (1991)
Rating--8.2
Colors--RealAudio
The music on this debut album is blistering. However, it can be seen why the band eventually decided to
change singers. While Gene Adam is a good singer, his voice and range don't feel quite right for the band---especially after
hearing Barlow. The music sounds heavily influenced by 'Lightning'-era Metallica, 'Powerslave'-era
Maiden, and 'Screaming'-era Priest---though probably faster than all of
them. Excellent music and riffs throughout, as the band really shows its potential. But again, the singing leaves a little to be
desired.
Highlights include "Colors," "Life and Death," "Funeral," "When the Night Falls," and the ripping namesake track.
