Huminary Stew--A Tribute to Alice Cooper (1998/Deadline)
Rating--7.8
Go to Hell--RealAudio
An all-star lineup comes together to crank out Alice's best. The respective bands would be too many to link, but some of
the big metal names include Joe Elliot, Phil Collen, Chuck Wright, Dave Mustaine, Marty Friedman, Eric Singer,
David Glen Eisley, Slash, Mike Inez, Carmine Appice, Ronnie James Dio, Randy Castillo, Vince Neil, Mick Mars, Billy Sheehan,
Bruce Dickinson, Adrian Smith, Tommy Aldridge, Dee Snider, Zakk Wylde, Rudy Sarzo, Frankie Banali, Phil Lewis, George
Lynch, Glenn Hughes, Paul Gilbert, Don Dokken, John Norum, Duff McKagen, Billy Duffy--- and more!! I think you
get the picture, though...
RJDio's great voice rings true on "Welcome to My Nightmare," and the Dokken-sung
"Eighteen" has good distortion, provided by Norum. "Elected" is punky, thick, and raw.
The true highlights show up in the
middle of the disc: "Cold Ethyl" is super nice, with sleazy Vince Neil crooning away; "Black Widow" has a Bruce Dickinson-spoken
intro, and then Adrian comes crunching in; and "Go to Hell," with nasty Dee Snider and Zack's hellacious harmonics, may be
the best of the lot. Solid!
This disc is obviously a must for the heavy-minded Cooper fan, but because of all the names, a safe
buy for just about any hard rockin' listener.
