Holy Mother--Criminal Afterlife (1999/ABS)
Rating--7.8

The Memory Dies--RealAudio
Euro power metal, with strains of classic Priest, Dio, and maybe even a little Scanner speed. The vocals are gritty and caustic--reminding a bit of Ronnie James Dio, but with a rougher edge (more on that later).
Opening track "The Rage" is swift and good, and other strong cuts include "What If Tomorrow Never Comes," "Lies," the chunky "Armageddon Pt. 1," and the title song.
A sliding chord drive makes "The Memory Dies" a pillar, and a surprise bonus is a cover of Dio's "Holy Diver"--a splendid mimic that not only crunches along, but also sounds exactly like Ronnie James, vocally!
