Helloween--Keeper of the Seven Keys, Part 1 (1987)
Rating--8.5

Halloween--RealAudio
Helloween burst onto the American scene with this release, bringing forth a Maiden-influenced sound mixed with spashes of melodic speed metal. Very fast and precise, and extremely energetic. Soaring vocals help in making this a melodic metaler's dream, as would be the case with the followup release.
"I'm Alive" is fast-paced, and contains Iced Earth- like guitar stutters. "A Little Time" is an intricate speedfest, in the vein of a Maiden or Blind Guardian. Furthermore, that same "gallop" is pretty much commonplace. Other highlights include the steady "A Little Time," with its biting chorus; the fast and solid "Twilight of the Gods"; and the cutting "Future World."
The soaring, extended-time track "Halloween" is a masterpiece, as it rages for over 13 minutes, laying down speed grooves intertwined with slow-down, atmospheric sections.
Overall a very solid power metal release, and a sound that would influence a multitude of European bands.
