Helloween - Keeper of the Seven Keys: The Legacy (2005/Steamhammer)
Rating - 8.5

There are places here where the band delves into its past catalog of "happy choruses," which depending on your taste, that might be a bad thing. However, there's also a good bit of the more recent aggression, which helps to make this a fairly well-rounded Helloween release. I guess it's sort of like the title aludes to: there are bits of the "Keeper" era songwriting, but realizing its 2005, the band forges onward in a 'Dark Ride' and 'Rabbit' frame of mind.
The 13+ minute "King for 1000 Years" has one of those happy choruses, but mixes in some shadowy moments to go with a great kick-in. "The Invisible Man" is solid (if a bit long-winded), with the lead single "Mrs. God" being catchy and to the point.
"Occasion Avenue" works its way through 11 minutes of stylistic changes, but at its best is full of heavy guitars and lays down the no-nonsense law. "Silent Rain" boasts some attacking guitar work, "Pleasure Drone" and "Shade in the Shadow" are good, "Come Alive" bumps and rips along, and "Do You Know What You're Fighting For" is a good ol' rock/metal song, full of rolling and pulling chops and an anthemic chorus.
