Halford--Resurrection (2000/Metal-Is)
Rating--8.7
Made in Hell--RealAudio
Locked and Loaded--RealAudio
The metallic return! Talk about a long time coming.... This one should please all the fans of old. Produced by the fast-emerging studio-wizard Roy Z,
this has the mid-80s moments of 'Screaming' and 'Defenders,' some of the 'Painkiller' distortion, and a few late '70s Priest song arrangements, to boot. Vocally, it's a return
to the glory days as well, as Rob is both as high and strong as ever. The Metal God is back...
The opening-track title song smacks of 'Painkiller,' and instantly the disc is off to a fiery start. "Made in Hell" is another ripper, and features some great deep-end Halford vox.
Crank the chorus on "Locked and Loaded," kiddies. The entire song is one thumping, spine-moving groove!
Almost every track stands out... There's the smooth-but-
solid flow of "Night Fall," the swift pace of "Cyberworld," the sass-like verses to "Drive," and that absolutely evil pickup to the slow-starting "Silent Screams".
The groovy, winding late 70s Priest sound shows up in fine form on "Slow Down" and its high chorus vocal notes, and also via "Temptation's" stutter chugs.
A bonus
is the thick Bruce Dickinson duet "The One You Love to Hate". In all, a strong album, in the classic metal sound.
