Great White--Recovery: Live! (1987)
Rating--7.2

A collection of some of the earliest Great White tracks, coming from '82 and '83, and then some live covers from '87. This particular CD features the 'On Your Knees' release tunes, which accounts for the 1982 tracks.
The music here tools around the sounds of Fastway and some of the rawer Dokken material. In fact, a number of the tracks were produced by Don Dokken and Michael Wagener. Singer Jack Russell croons along in Dave King-like style, and the rest of the band rocks in the most natural way of any of the unit's offerings, save the debut.
The sharpness and crunch of "On Your Knees" grabs you from the onset, and "No Way" is tough and heavy in both chords and precise notes. "Hard and Cold," "Streetkiller," and "Stick It" are all energetic and heavy, with "Substitute" being one of the few Who songs-- cover or original-- that I can stomach. The Whites do a good job with it.
A couple of other decent remakes are thrown in, including "Red House" and "Immigrant Song."
