Great White--Great White (1984/EMI)
Rating--8.5
Street Killer--RealAudio
Great White's full-length debut, and very solid, straight-forward material. Produced by Michael Wagener, and this does sound
a little like Dokken, Wagener's mid-'80s success story. Overall, however, it has a rawer feel---somewhat like
Fastway. In fact, rough-edged Jack Russell sounds a good bit like Dave King.
The raw opener "Out of the Night" has a good chug, and the thick and paced "Stick It" is a good follow-up. "Bad Boys"
is tough, and both "Streetkiller" and "Dead End" are swift and slashing.
"Nightmares" is one of the heavier tracks,
and a steady pulse marks "On Your Knees".
The band will soon get a little better with its songwriting, but will never
achieve a level of output that is any heavier than this.
