Gruntruck--Push (1992)
Rating--9.0
Gotta Believe--RealAudio
An extremely solid album. Gruntruck relies on driving, groove-based distortion, somewhat like the band My Sister's Machine. This is one of the metal sleeper albums of the '90s. Each song has its own distinctive groove, and the songwriting is so much better than on their debut. The music isn't terribly fast; more like a heavier, much faster version of AC/DC--though not as simplistic in the songwriting. I don't know if that's a good comparison or not. Gtruck has a lot of "chug" to their music. I guess it reminds a little of Sabbath as well, though not shackled but the low-E. Highlights include "Machine Action", "Crazy Love", "Gotta Believe", and "Push".
HOT CHOPS--The entire methodical feel to the title (and final) song. A super-groove. Also, check out the way guitarists Tom and Ben slowly work their way down the fretboards in Gotta Believe. They're muffling the chords, but the minute slides are great.
